September 12, 2016, Monday, Eid’l Adha National Holiday in the Philippines
(Date to be confirmed by proclamation)
MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang Palace is expected to declare Monday, September 12, 2016 as a Regular Non-Working Holiday to celebrate Eid’l Adha or “Festival of Sacrifice” following the date confirmation of the Saudi Supreme Court.
Eid’l Adha is the second national holiday celebrated by the Muslim community to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son before God, through his angel Jibra’il and informs him that the sacrifice has already been accepted. It is also one of the Islam’s holiest events celebrated annually by the Muslims.
Though Philippines is a Christian country, the date has been imposed to be regular holiday through RA 9849 signed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in respect to country’s Muslim community.
